Program Changes for the 2018/2019 School Year

The Mayapple School has enjoyed its location in Newport, VA for the past three years. However, due to the coming construction of The Mountain Valley Pipeline, we are planning a move to the Blacksburg Quaker Friends Meetinghouse, a recent construction with a young wooded area. We will create gardens and a loose parts play area similar to what we now enjoy.

To avoid occupancy of our current location once the Mountain Valley Pipeline is operational, we are planning on a Dec 2018 move date. Students will experience their first semester of the 2018/2019 school year at our Newport site and their second semester in Blacksburg. We understand that some families may not be able to follow us to the move to Blacksburg, and therefore this year we have created the option of registering for the first semester only, available for families living in Craig and Giles Counties. An additional change this year only will be the extension of the length of the winter break, to accommodate the move. You can see the 2018/2019 calendar here. Our January tuition reflects this change.

We are currently accepting applications for the 2018/2019 school year. All applications handed in by April 15th are considered at the same time with preference for returning families; applications handed in after April 15th will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis for any remaining spots. If you would like to fill out the application, you may access it here: Student Application 20182019

This year we are offering a “Kinderforest” program as a supplementary program for five-year-olds. You can read more about our Kinderforest program here.

Our last change we would like to bring to your attention is the discontinuation of the snack program for the 2018/2019 school year. While we enjoyed offering snack, it is a time-intensive aspect of the program, and we would prefer instead for teachers to be more available to interact with students and prepare educational materials for a better overall preschool experience.

Change can be difficult, but we feel positive about our approach to some difficult situations The Mayapple School is encountering. If you would like to help us grow and succeed, consider applying to join The Mayapple School Board of Advisors. You can find more information here.
